What Agencies Get Wrong About Client Onboarding
The first fortnight sets the tone for the entire engagement. Most agencies spend it collecting assets.

The Most Valuable Fortnight You Will Get
Onboarding is the only moment when a client is fully engaged, fully optimistic, and has not yet formed an opinion of how you work. Spending it chasing logo files wastes it.
Agree the Hard Things While Everyone Is Happy
Use the first week to agree what success looks like in numbers, who can approve what, and how disagreements get resolved. Every one of those conversations is cheaper now than in month four.
- Strategic discovery, with the client’s numbers in the room
- A single named approver per workstream
- A written definition of done for the first milestone
- An agreed escalation path before you need one
None of this is glamorous, and all of it is the reason some engagements renew while equally talented ones quietly do not.

Ship Something Within Ten Days
Ship something small and visible within ten days, even if it is not the main deliverable. Momentum earns you the patience you will need later.
“Clients do not judge an agency by the final deliverable alone. They judge it by how it felt to work with you on the way there.”
Close the first fortnight with a short written recap. It costs an hour, and it becomes the reference point for every conversation that follows.
